Welcome
At the present time the Cathedral is open for services on Sunday and weekdays, but is closed at all other times. Nevertheless we hope it will not be long before you will be able to visit either for prayer, or simply to enjoy the building itself. Meanwhile I hope you find on our website what might be of use or interest to you.
If you wish to post a prayer, for others to pray with you or for you, do please follow the link adjacent to this message where you can light a digital candle to represent your prayer.
You will also find links to further images, in addition to the one here, of the Cathedral’s newly installed, hanging ‘Rood’ (cross or crucifix). This contemporary work of art occupies approximately the place of the medieval rood which stood in this church, as in most others, until the sixteenth century. It makes sense, in these days, when people don’t necessarily understand what a church is for, to replace at the centre of the Cathedral, the clearest representation of God’s love for the world as revealed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This same, risen Jesus Christ now welcomes you to the Cathedral and continually presents our prayers to God the Father. You are most welcome here.
Although our new Dean has now been appointed, he is not expected to be in post until after Easter. Until then if you need to contact a priest please email Ven Jonathan Williams at precentor@newportcathedral.org.uk
