The aim of the Girls’ Brigade in Newport Cathedral is to help young people become followers of Jesus Christ. It offers guidance so that the girls may find true enrichment of life through self-control, reverence and a sense of responsibility.
The Girls’ Brigade acknowledges Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord according to the scriptures and seeks to fulfil its aim to the glory of one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It promotes a just society where all people are equally valued.
The motto of the Girls’ Brigade sums up their philosophy: Seek, Serve and Follow Christ.
In Newport Cathedral, this society is proud to take an active part in seeking, serving and following Jesus Christ. All members do their best to be loyal, committed, honest, truthful, kind and helpful. The badge reflects their deeply-rooted beliefs. In its centre is a cross, the symbol of Christ and His church. Below it is a lamp that His glory may shine out upon the world. Above it, a crown depicts Christ the King. Behind it all a torch, the flame of Christ’s living spirit.
Today the organisation operates in over 50 countries in the world and is divided into five fellowships: African, Asian, Caribbean and Americas, European and Pacific.
