St Woolos Sinfonia
Our Orchestra in Residence
St Woolos Sinfonia is a talented group of musicians who perform regularly at the Cathedral. They bring the pleasure of classical music to a wider audience, not just to music lovers. Though specialising in symphonic and chamber music, they have accompanied many choral works such as “Sing-Along Messiah.”
Supported by patrons and friends, the orchestra takes great pride in being able to help talented young musicians by giving them an opportunity to play in the orchestra under the supervision of enthusiastic professional musicians – a very beneficial prospect.
St Woolos Sinfonia is very experienced in working with choirs and are happy to collaborate with various choral societies to provide high quality, yet affordable, orchestral support.
Conductor & Patrons
Worthy of mention is the exceptionally gifted New Zealand conductor, Tianyi Lu (2017/18 Gustavo Dudamel Fellow of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Assistant Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) who has taken St Woolos Sinfonia as Guest, and more recently as Principal Conductor, to highly acclaimed concert performances.
If you would like to offer your support to their mission, it is possible to become a patron of the St. Woolos Sinfonia for £100. Patrons receive two complimentary tickets and one complementary programme for each of the Sinfonia’s orchestral concerts plus three wine vouchers and 5 reserved seats for the best acoustics.
Supporting The Sinfonia
The St Woolos Sinfonia has provided some wonderful entertainment over past years and we look forward to hearing more from them in future.
